Infant CPR and Safety for Parents and Families

Are you a new or expecting parent wanting to learn how to respond if your newborn baby or infant experiences a cardiac, respiratory, choking, or other medical emergency?  We’ve got you covered!  This infant CPR and safety class is perfect for anyone who will be around newborns and infants less than 1 year old, including babysitters and family members.

Our Infant CPR for Parents class is a non-certification course with a focus on newborn babies and infants (up to 1 year old) that covers infant CPR, first aid, safety, and more. The instructor will assess your family and environment, and then tailor the training to you, so that you learn exactly what is needed from a prevention, safety, and emergency response perspective.

Since the leading causes of infant mortality in the US include preventable accidents, injuries, and breathing problems (including choking), this class addresses baby safety and accident prevention measures that can be taken to avoid such incidents. We also cover what do if an emergency happens, including who to call, where to go, and what you can do while you’re waiting for the paramedics to arrive.

The instructor provides an interactive training with ample hands-on practice, feedback, Q&A, and discussion.  We’re here to ensure you leave our baby safety course feeling confident and ready to act quickly to perform lifesaving measures in case of an infant emergency.  You’ll also take away baby safety tips and knowledge to help make your home safer for your newborn baby or infant, thereby preventing accidents altogether.  A handy reference sheet is provided.

The following topics are covered:

  • Recognizing and understanding the signs and symptoms of a medical emergency in a newborn baby or infant
  • Conducting a medical assessment
  • When and who to call for help
  • CPR for infants and newborn babies
  • How to treat newborn and infant choking
  • Allergic reactions and seizures
  • First aid basics
  • Injury prevention
  • Baby safety tips and baby preparedness

This Infant CPR for Parents class is offered as either an in-person, instructor-led class in our classroom; an in-person, instructor-led class at your home (or other designated location); or an instructor-led virtual class (online via Zoom) for individuals or groups.
