Blended Learning consists of an online pediatric CPR First Aid course followed by an in-person skills session with an AHA instructor.
The AHA Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED course covers training and certification in CPR, AED use, choking management, and first aid for adults, children, and infants. This course includes added elements to meet state and EMSA requirements for CPR and first aid training for CA childcare providers who work in a licensed childcare facility.
The following topics are covered:
- CPR and AED use
- Allergic reactions and use of an EpiPen
- Asthma and other respiratory emergencies
- First aid basics
- Injuries to the head, eyes, neck, spine, mouth, and teeth
- Controlling bleeding, bandaging, using a tourniquet, and internal bleeding
- A variety of medical, injury, poison, and environmental emergencies including burns, electrical injuries, dehydration, drowning, amputations, bites and stings, splinters, fainting, seizures, broken bones, dislocations, and sprains
During a pediatric CPR and first aid skills session, participants will have an opportunity to review the cardiac arrest algorithm and first aid skills, as well as practice CPR and using an AED. Then participants will be tested on CPR and first aid scenarios.
