AED Use in Child and Infant CPR Emergencies
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are considered safe and recommended for use in cases of sudden cardiac arrest in children and infants when appropriate pediatric pads are available. Current pediatric resuscitation guidance supports early defibrillation when a shockable rhythm is present, as timely AED use combined with CPR can significantly improve survival outcomes in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest situations.
This article reviews the clinical evidence and safety considerations for AED use in infants, including scenarios where manual defibrillation is not immediately available and rapid bystander intervention is critical.
